It’s the final weekend of summer. In the kitchen, Mother sterilizes jars for winter preserves, while lovesick Françoise belts out karaoke to her little brother Julien. Out in the shed, Karim—who’s abandoned his acting ambitions—takes on some off-the-books work. Tonight, the new canning factory where Father works is set to open. Nobody is prepared when Sonia shows up unannounced that same morning.
