In 1960, Gergiev, the leader of Zirnitra, announces Project Mechtat, seeking to achieve a manned space flight. Lev Leps, an astronaut candidate, is tasked with overseeing the "Nosferatu Project," which uses Irina Luminesk as a test subject. Amidst national rivalries, their bond deepens as they reach for the stars.
